Day 13 - 17 July Kotor

 When we awoke this morning the clocks had gone back an hour, and we were in the outer part of the Bay of Kotor.

I had no idea any of this was here or that it was so astonishingly beautiful. It was still misty as we passed villas and super yachts and came through the strait of Verige to the inner bay.

Then slowly around the curve of the inner bay to Kotor, past lots of villas and churches.

By the time we were tying up, we were having breakfast. Then onto a bus for our morning tour. This went through the town and then switchbacked up the mountains. From the top we could see the inner and outer bays together.

Once out of the bay there were high valleys with fields and some cattle. We stopped at the town of Njugusi to try local ham (like a prosciutto) and cheese with a sour honey drink (Lynn) or rakia (me). Back on the bus we drove over some hills to Cetinje and visited the old palace of King Nicholas. This is essentially a large, grand house, now a museum with classical furniture and paintings.

Back on the bus we drove back to the coastal town of Dubra which is full of hotels and where the beaches are lined with rows of umbrellas. Finally we got back to Kotor via a long tunnel, so the high road is fortunately not the only way in and out. In the afternoon it was too hot so we had lunch on the ship then rested.

We went out again around six to the old town - which was less than 100m from the ship. It hadn't really coolled down as much as we hoped, but a little. Anyway it was another charming old town full of alleys, souvenir shops and cafes.

We stayed until the heat was too much, then came back to the ship for dinner. By the time we left it was dark; you could just make out the mountains behind the lights.
